Famous Hawaiian Shirts I Own

During the years I have (accidentally) collected several "famous" Hawaiian shirts.

1. The "Magnum P.I." Hawaiian Shirt

This shirt, called the Black Jungle Bird, was purchased from Paradise on a Hanger, which is generally where I shop mail-order. The shirt (see closeup) is manufactured by Paradise Found. They also sell Magnum's more common Red Jungle Bird shirt, which he wore much more frequently in the show, and is featured in the theme song video. I haven't purchased that one yet. The difference between the two is the color of the birds and leaves; it is the same design.

I am a big fan of Magnum, P.I., a show about a detective in Hawaii, which aired in the 1980's.This shirt was featured in Episode 1.6 ("Skin Deep"), from which the video capture above is taken (more here).

The original red Jungle Bird Shirt was donated to The Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. You can see more photos of Magnum in various Hawaiian shirts (but unfortunately not the black one) on this site, which also gives the show's history.

2. The "Smith" Jeff Hawaiian Shirt

This shirt was worn by the "Jeff" character during the premiere of CBS's "Smith" drama about high-stakes criminals. See this blog entry for more information.
